Check your range
- Tap "Check my range". "Find your range" asks for your lowest note first: sing your lowest comfortable note on "ah" and hold it until it says "Got it", then tap "Next". Do the same for your highest. "Try again" sings that note again.
- We show your comfortable range, then each part: "Fits as written", "Fits in" a new key, or "A stretch for your voice". The best one is marked "Best for you".
- Tap "Use this" on a part to sing it, in the key shown.
- If we couldn't hear a steady note, sing a little louder and hold it for a couple of seconds.
- "Check my range" is in Sing where you pick your part, and under Your part. On Your voice, "Measure again" checks your range on its own.
Choose your part
- Once we know your range, a song opens on a part for you, and we say which: as a new singer, the melody, in your own octave; after that, the part that fits your range best. If we don't know your range yet, pick the part that sits best in your voice. Each one shows its lowest and highest notes.
- To switch later, tap your part's name at the top of Sing (on a phone, it's the first row in Settings). Your part lists them all: tap another.
- Your range is a starting point, not a label: sing any part you like.
Change the key
- "Use this" after a range check moves the song into that key. Once we know your range, a song you learn starts in the key that fits it. In Part by part, while nothing in the song is recorded, "Not in your range?" moves it down or up a semitone with minus and plus.
- Or open the song in the studio, then Song settings. Beside Key, tap minus or plus to move it down or up a semitone, up to 7 either way. "Find my key with a range check" is there too.
- Parts you've already recorded stay in the key you sang them in. Record them again to match the new key.
Slow it down
- In Sing, open Settings, then Speed: 100%, 85% or 70%. In the whole song on a bigger screen, the minus and plus beside Tempo do the same.
- Recording is always at full speed, so your take fits with the others. If you tap Record while it's slowed, we offer "Back to full speed".
How you hear your part
- In Sing, choose Listen, Sing along (your guide sings with you), or On your own (your guide goes quiet while the others keep going).
Choose your guide voice
- Many parts are sung by a real singer. Tap your part's name at the top of Sing, and under "Who sings the Alto for you" (your part's name there), pick a singer ("Sung by" and their name) or the "Practice voice".
- The practice voice is a steady, synthesized voice. Some find its pitch easier to match.
- A real singer recorded the part in the song's own key, at full speed. In another key, or slowed down, you hear the practice voice, which follows any key and speed. We tell you when that happens, with a way to sing in the real voice's key.
- You can also reach the voices from Settings, then "Guide voices", or in the studio: tap a part's name, then "Voice".
